Following is a listing of the process that should be followed when obtaining a building permit in Iosco, Ogemaw, or Alcona counties:
Step 1 Contact the appropriate Health Department for a well and septic permit Step 2 Take the Health Department Permit, property description, house and site plans to the area Zoning Administrator for a Zoning Permit. Step 3 Stop at the county's Road Commission office with a property description and site plan to obtain a driveway permit. Step 4 If the proposed structure will be constructed within 500 feet of any lake or stream you will need a Soil and Sediment Control Permit. This is obtained from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Step 5 Take all the above permits along with two sets of building plans to the Building Code Official for the area you plan to build in. Step 6 If you will be doing any of the mechanical or electrical work, contact the appropriate inspector for the mechanical, plumbing and electrical permits.
Building Permit Inspection Schedule
After you have received the required permits the Area Building Official will need to be contacted during construction to make the following three inspections:
No. 1 Inspection of the footing, drain tile systems, foundations and basement walls before they are back filled. No. 2 Inspection of the rough frame before the walls are enclosed with wallboard or any structural members are concealed. The mechanical inspectors will need to also be contacted. No. 3 Final inspection when the building is completed. The mechanical inspectors, and the Health Department will have to complete their inspections prior to receiving a final certificate of occupancy from the Building Code Official.
